NUTRITIONAL & FUN FACTS ABOUT Seafood:

Obviously seafood is a general term for innumerable varieties of shellfish/fish that we eat. Quantifying the nutritional profile as a whole is not entirely possible other than to say that seafood provides a very lean, high quality source of protein that packs varying amounts of healthful fatty acids like Omega-3's and 6's as well as vitamins D and B2 (riboflavin). The American Heart Association recommends eating fish twice a week for a healthy diet and for it's ability to help lower cholesterol and fight disease. When animal feed lots is a huge contributing factor to climate change, alternative sources of protein is critical for human survival. Unfortunately, the way we fish and the volume of sea-life we take from the oceans and rivers has put a massive dent in the availability of sustainable seafoods.

DIFFICULTIES FACING seafood:

There are a multitude of factors threatening seafood in general, including overfishing. What that means is that more of a species of fish are being removed from the ocean than can be replenished...resulting in a depleted and unsustainable population. According to the World Wildlife Foundation, 'More than 85 percent of the world's fisheries have been pushed to or beyond their biological limits and are in need of strict management plans to restore them.'
